The Arab Smart Customs Forum featured a series of sessions addressing the latest technologies used to improve customs performance and enhance the efficiency of customs procedures.
Session One: Smart Customs and Performance Development through Innovative Technologies
The first session opened with a speech by Mr. Colm Leonard, Vice Chairman of the Private Sector Consultative Group at the World Customs Organization. The session discussed the role of modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and blockchain in facilitating customs procedures and accelerating clearance processes. South Korea’s successful experience in implementing smart customs systems was reviewed, alongside the private sector’s role in developing innovative customs solutions. The session also highlighted the importance of electronic payment in expediting customs operations, featuring a presentation by eFinance Group on digital solutions in this field.
Session Two: Facilitating E-Commerce Using Smart Technologies
The second session focused on integrating e-commerce systems with smart customs, featuring experts from leading companies such as DHL. Discussions covered ways to simplify customs transactions through advanced digital solutions, contributing to the enhancement of e-commerce and the efficiency of customs systems. Additionally, Dr. Ahmed Marzouk, Director of Grants and Special Programs at the American University in Cairo’s Continuing Education School, presented on the role and capabilities of human resources in supporting successful e-commerce using artificial intelligence.
Both sessions concluded with an open discussion and Q&A, featuring active engagement from attendees. Key challenges in implementing smart customs systems were explored, along with ways to strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors to develop effective and sustainable solutions.
