The President of Bahrain Customs, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, received the President of the Arab Union of Customs Brokers, Dr. Mamdouh Al-Rifai, on Thursday, January 11, 2018, in the Bahraini capital, Manama.
The meeting addressed several Arab economic issues concerning the Arab citizen, introduced the Union, its goals, activities, and the steps it has taken recently through communication with entities, institutions, and individuals in Arab countries. It also discussed ways to enhance the development of intra-Arab trade and the important role of customs in combating smuggling, customs fraud, and parallel economy.
Dr. Mamdouh Al-Rifai praised the great efforts and role of Bahrain Customs in defending Bahrain’s economic resources and its contribution to strengthening joint Arab customs work and Arab trade.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa highlighted the benefits of rapid technological development through electronic linkage between Arab customs administrations and relevant bodies, expressed his full support for developing the customs brokerage profession as an important partner in Arab and international trade, and expressed his happiness with the Union and its goals serving the joint Arab work.
On his part, the Union President Dr. Mamdouh Al-Rifai presented a draft memorandum of understanding for joint cooperation with Bahrain Customs to promote and facilitate intra-Arab trade and serve the Arab citizen.
Attendees from Bahrain Customs included Brigadier Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Kubaisi, Director General of the General Administration for Customs Clearance and Inspection. From the Union side, attendees included Mr. Abdul Ghaffar Al-Bastaki, the Union’s representative in Bahrain and President of the Bahrain Logistics Syndicate, Mr. Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri, a member of the Union’s General Assembly, and Mr. Youssef Al-Haiki, Vice President of the Bahrain Logistics Syndicate.
