A delegation from the Arab Union of Customs Executives participated in the 107th session of the Arab Economic Unity Council, held at the Sofitel El Gezirah Hotel in Cairo. The meeting began with a speech by Ambassador Wadadi Ould Sid Hiba, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and Chairperson of the current session. He expressed his hope that the session would produce serious and effective recommendations to advance the course of Arab joint action. He noted that the two main focuses of this session were studies related to reconstruction in Arab countries and studies related to the digital economy in Arab countries.

Ambassador Wadadi emphasized that Arab joint action so far has been theoretical and needs to shift towards practical implementation.

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Mohamed Al-Rabeea added that in this session, they looked both forward and backward to assess where the world stands in terms of economic blocs, while Arabs possess all the elements of cohesion and unity in terms of natural and human resources. However, there is a need for dedicated and sincere work to achieve unified Arab economic integration. He added that this session discussed important topics including reconstruction in Arab countries and the digital economy. The first Digital Economy Conference is set to be held in Abu Dhabi this month.

Minister Mohamed Al-Mutaymi, Yemen’s Minister of Trade and Industry, pointed out that reconstruction of Arab countries will be carried out through Arab companies and the Arab private sector. He thanked the Arab Economic Unity Council for its role in focusing on this file with the support of specialized unions affiliated with the council.
