The Arab Union of Customs Executives participates in the 105th Ordinary Session of the Economic Unity Council.

A delegation from the Arab Union of Customs Executives participated in the 105th session of the Arab Economic Unity Council on Thursday morning, November 30, 2017, held at the Sofitel El Gezirah Hotel in Cairo. The delegation was headed by the Union’s Vice President, Advisor Taha Qalisi, along with Secretary-General Mr. Samir Abu Al-Nasr, Mr. Mohamed Yehia, member of the General Assembly, and Mr. Mohamed Shazly, the Union’s media officer.

The meeting was attended by representatives from Arab countries including Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Mauritania, Somalia, Palestine, Yemen, and Sudan, as well as a number of experts, advisors, and representatives of specialized Arab federations.

Ambassador Mohamed Al-Rabee, Secretary-General of the Economic Unity Council, noted that this session reviewed many memoranda and reports, including discussing memoranda from the Council’s General Secretariat concerning amendments proposed by Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation on several studies.

Al-Rabee explained that the session reviewed a study on biofuels and the potentials and opportunities for Arab-African integration; a study on the economic impact of food loss on Arab food security; practical application of using local currencies in settling international payments; a study on the green economy in the Arab world as a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development; a study on community partnerships and their role in supporting scientific research and sustainable development; and the vision of specialized Arab federations in implementing sustainable development programs.

He affirmed that the biofuel production project, as one of the renewable energy sources through cultivating non-traditional plants in the deserts of the Arab world, is being pursued in implementation of the recommendation issued at the 46th meeting of specialized Arab federations.
