The President of the Sudanese Customs Authority, Police Major General Dr. Bashir Al-Taher, warmly welcomed the President of the Arab Union of Customs Clearance Agents, Dr. Mamdouh Al-Rifai, at the headquarters of the Sudanese Customs Authority.
The meeting discussed several Arab economic issues concerning the Arab citizen, introduced the Union, its goals, activities, and steps taken recently through communication with institutions and individuals in Arab countries. It also addressed ways to enhance the development of intra-Arab trade and the crucial role customs play in combating smuggling, fraud, and the parallel economy.
Dr. Mamdouh Al-Rifai praised the significant efforts and role of the Sudanese Customs in defending the national economy of Sudan, with its natural resources, industries, and human capacity, as well as its contribution to strengthening joint Arab customs work and Arab trade.
Dr. Al-Rifai added that he held meetings with customs authorities from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain to achieve desired cooperation across Arab customs to reach economic integration.
Major General Dr. Bashir Al-Taher welcomed the Arab Union of Customs Clearance Agents, led by Dr. Mamdouh Al-Rifai, after reviewing the Union’s objectives aimed at enhancing trade exchange between Arab countries and the efforts made by the Union in recent months towards Arab economic integration.
At the end of the fruitful meeting, Dr. Mamdouh Al-Rifai presented a draft cooperation agreement between the Union and the Sudanese Customs Authority as part of the Union’s plan to bring Arab customs closer to serve the economy and the Arab citizen. He also invited Major General Bashir Al-Taher to attend the Union’s annual conference scheduled in Cairo on May 5th, to which Major General Bashir warmly accepted.
The official meeting was attended on behalf of the Arab Union of Customs Clearance Agents by Dr. Mamdouh Al-Rifai, President of the Union, and Mr. Zuhair Abdullah, Sudan’s representative and General Assembly member. From the Sudanese Customs Authority, attendees included Police Major General Dr. Bashir Al-Taher, Head of the Authority, Major General Ismail Babiker, Director of General Customs Operations, Major General Abdel Mohsen Said, Director of States Customs, and Colonel Hassan Omar, Director of International Cooperation in Customs.
