Dr. Mamdouh Al-Rifai: Facilitating Procedures at Customs Ports as a Mechanism for Economic Integration

r. Mamdouh Al-Rifa’i, President of the Arab Union of Customs Brokers, stated in his speech at the 47th Regular Conference of Specialized Arab Unions operating within the framework of the Arab Economic Unity Council that facilitating procedures at customs ports is one of the main mechanisms for liberalizing Arab trade and achieving economic integration.

Al-Rifa’i added that increasing trade exchange among Arab countries can be achieved by establishing a unified Arab authority for standards and specifications for all Arab products, adopting an electronic documentation system at all Arab customs ports, and generalizing the use of X-ray scanning (scanning) technology.

He also emphasized the necessity to expedite the establishment of the Arab Customs Union to achieve Arab economic integration, and recommended the creation of a joint Arab Food and Drug Authority to provide suppliers and importers with information and health requirements for goods, which would contribute to increasing the efficiency of customs ports and speeding up customs clearance procedures.
